Fresno Medical Respite Center

What's New in RESCUE?  FRESNO MEDICAL RESPITE CENTER!
A Community Care Ministry

On July 6, 2011 the Fresno Rescue Mission held a press conference to announce to the community the opening of this much-needed ministry operation.

As part of a collaborative effort, the Fresno Rescue Mission provides eight beds for homeless men who need a safe place to continue their recuperation after being discharged from and referred by local hospitals.

Fresno Medical Respite Center was established through partnerships with local hospitals, Clinica Sierra Vista, Marjaree Mason Center, the Hospital Council of Northern and Central California (and other agencies), and was made possible through a generous grant from the Kaiser Permanente Community Benefit Program. Operational funding and support is provided by Community Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, and Saint Agnes Medical Center.

In addition to the eight beds provided by the Mission for men, two beds for women are available at the Mental Health System’s Hacienda Campus. Clinica Sierra Vista provides screening and monitors medical progress. Guests are referred to the Fresno/Madera Continuum of Care for permanent housing options.

“This has been part of the Mission’s strategic plan for some time, and we finally see it coming to fruition through a great community partnership!  One more way God provides for the least of these! One more  way we can minister to the homeless, provide hope, and encourage life change!  We are pleased to be part of this process.”
